ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
INTERNATIONAL DUAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMS
International Dual Diploma Programs, successfully conducted by Istanbul Technical University since 2003, are programs through which graduates receive diplomas from both Istanbul Technical University and partner leading international universities located in the United States of America, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, and the United Kingdom in their respective fields.
Being aware that you, our prospective students, are shaping your future and that this process can be quite challenging, we hope that this handbook will answer your questions about our dual diploma Programs, and we wish you a successful future.
Why should I choose Dual Diploma Programs?
International dual diploma Programs aim primarily to equip students with the necessary skills to become individuals who make a difference both during their university life and after graduation in their professional careers—individuals who are visionary, able to express themselves comfortably, adaptable, highly proficient in foreign languages, and capable of leadership in both professional and social life.
Our graduates have the opportunity to find employment easily in both domestic and international job markets. During their time spent in the United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, and the United Kingdom, students gain exposure to many different cultures. With the high-level education they receive, they graduate as successful engineers, designers, and business professionals.

Are dual diploma programs paid? What are the fees?
dual diploma programs are paid programs in which you pay annual tuition fees both for your years at ITU and for your years abroad. If you attend a preparatory class, you also pay an annual fee for the preparatory year. Payments can be made in two installments at the beginning of the first and second semesters.
Living expenses such as meals, airfare, accommodation, and stationery are your responsibility. Based on feedback from dual diploma Program students, it can be estimated that your personal living expenses in the United States will be approximately 15,000–20,000 USD per year. Fees may increase at a certain rate each year. Such increases apply to all dual diploma Program students. Therefore, it is advisable to check the updated prices before the start of the academic year.
For up-to-date fee information, please visit the Fees page of the program you are interested in.
Tuition payments for dual diploma Programs are made to ITU for the periods at ITU and directly to the partner universities for the periods abroad. For your years at ITU, payments are made via Vakıfbank branches using your student number. Please do not make any payments to any IBAN.
Will I experience adaptation problems or issues living abroad?
In dual diploma Programs, partner universities are selected based on agreements ensuring that students receive high-quality education in a safe and healthy environment. Before you go abroad, program coordinators inform students about academic and social life overseas. Additionally, all dual diploma students go to the partner university at the same time, there are program coordinators at the partner universities, students undergo an orientation in their first year abroad, and senior students also provide guidance.
Will I have the same diploma as other ITU students when I graduate?
You will receive two bachelor’s diplomas, one from Istanbul Technical University and one from the partner university. The name of your ITU diploma will appear exactly as stated in the ÖSYM guide for the program.
What are the career fields of the programs?
Civil Engineering:
The construction sector, which has been growing both nationally and internationally in recent years, offers a wide range of job opportunities in both private and public sectors through project development, research, and consultancy services.
Information Systems Engineering:
Combining computer, electronics, and communication programs under one framework, Information Systems Engineering enables graduates to work in the rapidly developing telecommunications sector in Turkey.
Marine Engineering Management and Maritime Transportation Management Engineering:
Graduates of both programs can obtain licenses such as Long Voyage Deck/Engine Officer and later Long Voyage Captain/Chief Engineer through the Turkish Ship Personnel Examination Center (GASM), allowing them to work as captains/chief engineers in international and national fleets. Some graduates also work as managers in shipowner companies.
Business Administration:
Graduates can pursue careers across a wide range of fields including manufacturing, advertising, capital markets, banking and insurance, tourism, IT, and media. With the English-language education and international experience provided by ITU and SUNY New Paltz, graduates stand out in the job market. They often progress to senior management positions or establish their own businesses.
Fashion Design:
The textile and apparel industry has become one of the most advanced sectors of industrial development in Turkey. To remain competitive globally, the industry requires designers with strong skills in originality, quality, efficiency, marketing, and branding. The Fashion Design Program was established in 2004 through cooperation between ITU and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York. FIT is among the top three fashion schools in the world and uniquely offers a joint four-year bachelor’s degree with ITU. The program includes draping, sewing techniques, pattern making, computer-aided pattern design, Photoshop, Illustrator, and collection costing courses. Students learn to design and produce garments from concept to final product, gaining the ability to evaluate the commercial viability of their designs. Graduates can work in design studios and fashion companies such as Beymen, Mavi, Koton, Mudo, or international firms like Li & Fung, or establish their own brands or work as freelance designers.
Textile Development and Marketing:
The program provides fundamental technological knowledge along with training in international markets, textile marketing techniques, economics, and finance. It also covers fashion trends affecting markets, aiming to train specialists capable of developing and marketing textile products with specific qualifications.
Bioengineering:
Bioengineering and biotechnology are identified as key strategic fields in national science and technology planning. Graduates can work in industrial biotechnology, food biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, molecular biology, toxicology, enzyme technology, biomaterials, and related industries such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, textiles, leather, and petrochemicals.
Electronics and Communication Engineering:
Graduates have access to career opportunities in electronics and telecommunications industries, including telecom operators, device manufacturers, banks, IT companies, software firms, biomedical industries, R&D centers, and academic institutions.
Industrial Engineering:
Graduates apply analytical and social science perspectives across industries ranging from high-tech manufacturing to banking, insurance, tourism, and healthcare.
Mechanical Engineering:
The program collaborates with leading companies such as ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TAI, Bosch, Arçelik, Mercedes-Benz Turkey, SKF, TOFAŞ, Renault, Ford Otosan, Farplas, Turkish Airlines, Siemens, and TEI. Graduates work in automotive, aerospace, biotechnology, manufacturing, and energy sectors.
Architecture:
The program trains architects who are environmentally conscious, historically aware, and capable of using technology in design. Graduates can work in both public and private sectors.

The program leverages ITU’s long-standing technical and industrial expertise, offering graduates opportunities in auditing, consultancy, banking, finance, marketing, foreign trade, and academia, as well as public institutions.
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering:
Graduates can work in shipyards, design offices, ship supply industries, classification societies, and insurance companies, as well as in ports and maritime authorities in Turkey.
Computer Engineering:
This rapidly evolving field offers careers in software development, artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, networks, embedded systems, and hardware design. Graduates can work in both public and private sectors or start their own companies, with strong global remote work opportunities.
